Mental Wellness Month

January is Mental Wellness Month, which gives us an opportunity to understand what we mean  by “mental wellness” and how we can find it and practice it in our lives.

What is Mental Wellness?

First, according to the Discovery Mood & Anxiety Program, “mental wellness is the ability to cope with life’s stressors while maintaining a healthy quality of life. It’s about building up the tools we need to find resilience when life feels depleting.”

What are the tools needed for mental wellness?

The following are a summary of ideas and tools for finding and practicing mental wellness in our lives:

  1. Practice Mindfulness through meditation, limiting screen time, and simply being quiet.

  2. Practice Rest by setting a healthy bedtime, breathing deeply, and turning off screens.

  3. Practice Gratitude by writing down and saying aloud the things for which you are grateful.

  4. Practice Asking for Help by saying what you need when you need it to the people in your life whom you trust.

  5. Practice Engaging in Regular Therapeutic Counseling. We’re here to help. Healing happens together.

Finally, we highly recommend these fresh reads that promote mental wellness:
