Kelsey Fields is passionate about providing client-centered care to boost awareness, inspire creativity, and foster connections. She has experience working in residential/ foster care treatment, inpatient medical and mental health settings, IOP/PHP programs, and outpatient therapy for children, adolescents, and adults who have experienced trauma.
This month marks one year since Kelsey joined our clinical staff at NCCC, and we asked her a few questions to get to know her better.
Q + A with Kelsey
What are you most passionate about when it comes to being a therapist?
I'm really passionate about making sure people feel understood and supported. Clients come to us in their hardest times, when they are most vulnerable and most in need of our care. It's such a privilege to show up knowing that I can be someone who supports them, listens to them, and helps them meet their therapeutic goals.
What three words best describe the type of therapist you are?
This is a hard one, but I will go with creative because it speaks to my value of art and music within therapy, as well as to my style of conducting therapy; eclectic because of my interest in a lot of different therapeutic techniques; and connected because of my value on therapeutic rapport with my clients.
What "lights you up" outside of work?
I really love cuddling up on the couch watching movies or shows with my family and cats. I also love going to my local park, meditating, music, sewing, and painting.
What show/movie/song have you enjoyed recently?
I'm currently watching Bee and Puppycat on Netflix and rewatching Project Runway on Hulu. I've been cycling through my favorite artists on Spotify lately, including the Avett Brothers (which is my favorite band to date), as well as branching out into other genres like Lofi, pop, folk/ bluegrass, and classical music.
Q + A with Kelsey’s Team Lead, Kaelie
What are Kelsey's strengths when it comes to her work as a therapist?
Kelsey values the betterment and personhood of each of her clients. She holds space for clients in a way that is kind, thoughtful, and holistic. She has a remarkable way of understanding and reflecting back to clients what she hears them expressing in ways that provide them with a deeper understanding of themselves and their emotions.
She is gifted at using visualization and creative medias to educate clients and further their growth. Her Clinical Education Training at NCCC about Guided Imagery and Music Therapy was fantastic. It provided education on how therapists trained in this modality, like herself, utilize music to assist clients in their healing journey.
In what areas does Kelsey shine?
Kelsey approaches tasks with positivity and curiosity. She is incredibly talented at creating spreadsheets to optimize her productivity. Her spreadsheets have been used among my team as great examples for how to track licensure supervision hours and how to best organize/track client scheduling.
What has been your favorite thing about knowing Kelsey and having her on your team?
My favorite thing about having Kelsey on my team is the energy and engagement she brings to every interaction. Kelsey is welcoming, warm, and optimistic. She is eager to learn, and she supports her coworkers by sharing her experiences and knowledge. Her kindness is authentic and genuine.
